Results Processing

Result Processing refers to the systematic procedure of compiling, calculating, and finalizing the academic results of students. This involves collecting data from various assessments, exams, and coursework; analyzing and verifying it to ensure accuracy. The final step is to generate and publish the results for students including grades, marks, and other indicators as below.

Process

The process of examination Results typically involves several steps to ensure fairness and accuracy.

  • Internal Assessments: Colleges conduct internal exams including mid-semester tests, assignments, lab evaluations, and quizzes. These marks contribute to the final grade, usually forming a percentage of the total score.
  • End-Semester Exams: These are more comprehensive and cover the entire syllabus. These exams are usually written tests, practicals, or viva voce.
  • Grafting (Grace Marks): Some universities apply grafting, where grace marks are awarded to students who narrowly miss passing. This is done to help students clear subjects without significantly altering academic standards.
  • Moderation: Moderation is applied to adjust marks based on overall performance trends. If an exam is found to be too difficult, marks may be scaled up to ensure fairness. If discrepancies are found in evaluation, moderation ensures consistency.

Result Compilation

Marks from internal assessments and end-semester exams are combined. Weightage varies by university, but internal marks usually contribute 20-40% of the final score.

Verification & Approval

Results undergo verification by faculty and examination committees. Any errors in mark entry or calculation are corrected before final approval.

Publication of Results

Results are published online or on notice boards. Students can apply for revaluation or rechecking if they suspect errors.

Issuance of Certificates

After final approval, students receive grade sheets and transcripts. Universities issue provisional certificates before awarding degrees.
